Keto Tartar Sauce
A simple healthy tartar sauce that will make you forget the grocery store. Because this recipe is almost too easy to make! And the best part? No net carbs!
Here’s a fun fact. Did you know that the word “Tartar” dates all the way back to the 13th century? Europeans called the Mongol invaders “Tartars,” and the Tartars would eat raw minced meat.
The Mongol’s recipe then lingered on after the invasion, and through many translations, across many countries, it became steak tartare. And tartar sauce was used to spice up the meal. (There’s some perfect trivia for game night!)
Now, what exactly should you put tartar sauce on? Is “anything” not a good answer?
There are the obvious culprits: fish in all its forms, clam strips, oysters. You can also try spreading it over egg salad, or even devilled eggs. Any beef might warrant tartar sauce too. And veggies are never a bad option either.
Try experimenting. You never know what you might like.
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp finely chopped dill pickle or dill relish
- 1/2 tsp dill pickle juice
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 tbsp chopped chives
- fresh dill sprig – chopped
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- dash of sea salt
- dash of hot sauce (optional)
- Mix all ingredients together.
